NIMS ICS Training Requirements
NIMS (National Incident Management System) is what the nation uses for managing incidents and as a member of search and rescue it is a requirement to have the IS-100.a (ICS 100) Introduction to Incident Command System and also the IS-700.a National Incident Management System (NIMS), An Introduction. In the past we have only required the IS-100 course but now it will be required to have both the IS-100 and IS-700. Those members that are more active and take the role of team leader should also take the IS-200 and IS-800 courses. Of course the 200 and 800 courses are not required now but we will need to get people through the courses in the near future. Also, anyone who is interested in being an incident commander will need to take the 300 and 400 level courses which will require Tip Top to bring in an instructor. For now, however, we need to just focus on completing the ICS-100.a and the IS-700.a. Both of these courses are simple and can be taken online at http://training.fema.gov/IS/NIMS.asp. Simply follow the online tutorial and then take the final exam. E-mail Jason your certificates, or bring them in to the office so that he can put them in your files.
